Bandung, Tuesday / October 08, 2024 - The Bandung Branch of the Women's Islamic Student Association Corps (Korps HMI-Wati (KOHATI)) held a friendly visit to the Bandung City Statistics Agency (BPS) Office. This activity aims to discuss social issues related to youth development, women's empowerment, see problematic areas of sexual violence from the women's side, and highlight the important role of statistical data in understanding the challenges faced by these issues.

The visit was attended by administrators and members of the HMI-Wati Corps (KOHATI) who are active in fighting for the rights of women and adolescents. In her speech, the Chairperson of the Bandung Branch of the HMI-Wati Corps (KOHATI), Melinda Amelia, expressed the importance of collecting accurate data to formulate targeted policies. She emphasized that a deep understanding of the social conditions of adolescents and women is needed to identify effective measures for empowerment.

The Head of BPS Bandung City, Samiran S.Si, M.T welcomed the visit and explained how statistical data can be used to identify trends and problems. “The effect of data can change the flow of money, for example when the unemployment rate falls, the budget allocation for unemployment alleviation may change, which is the main challenge at this time. There are 3 basic statistical activities, namely basic statistics, sectoral statistics, and special statistics. If there is data that is not available at BPS, it can be obtained from sectoral data of related agencies,” said Samiran S.Si, M.T at the Bandung City BPS Office Hall, Tuesday (8/10/2024).

The discussion was interactive, with members of the Bandung Branch of the HMI-Wati Corps (KOHATI) actively asking questions related to the use of statistical data to formulate programs that support women's empowerment and youth development. They also discussed the importance of collaboration between educational institutions, government, and society to create a more supportive environment for handling social issues of adolescence and women's empowerment.

The visit ended with the hope to build closer cooperation between HMI-Wati and BPS in collecting and analyzing data that can be useful for social policy. With strong data support, it is expected that the programs implemented can be more targeted and effective in facing the challenges faced by adolescents and women in Bandung City. This activity is the first step to strengthen awareness of the importance of statistical data in efforts to empower and develop adolescents and women, in order to create a more just and prosperous society.
