Deflation occurred in August 2025
Bandung, (1/9) - The Bandung City Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded deflation
of 0.14 percent (m-to-m) in August 2025. There was a decline in the consumer
price index (CPI) from 108.12 percent in July 2025 to 107.97 percent in August
2025. This situation differs from the same month last year (August 2024), which
saw inflation of 0.13 percent. On an annual basis (y-o-y), inflation stood at
1.69 percent, and on a calendar year basis (y-to-d), inflation was 1.29
percent.
The expenditure group that contributed most to monthly deflation was food,
beverages, and tobacco, which experienced deflation of 0.36 percent,
contributing 0.10 percent to deflation. The household equipment, appliances,
and routine maintenance group experienced deflation of 0.94 percent in August
2025 and contributed 0.03 percent to deflation. The transportation group experienced
deflation of 0.25 percent and contributed 0.03 percent to inflation.
The commodities that contributed most to monthly deflation were cayenne
pepper, tomatoes, gasoline, broiler chicken meat, red chili peppers, and
broiler chicken eggs. Meanwhile, the commodities that contributed most to
monthly inflation were machine-rolled kretek cigarettes (SKM), shallots,
oranges, and gold jewelry.
The expenditure group that contributed most to annual inflation was housing,
water, electricity, and household fuel, which experienced inflation of 2.75
percent, contributing 0.64 percent to inflation. The food, beverages, and
tobacco group experienced inflation of 1.81 percent and contributed 0.56
percent to inflation. The personal care and other services group experienced
inflation of 8.72 percent and contributed 0.44 percent to inflation.
The commodities that contributed most to annual inflation were gold jewelry,
household fuel, cooking oil, shallots, house rent, PDAM clean water tariffs,
and machine-rolled kretek cigarettes (SKM). Meanwhile, the commodities that
contributed most to annual deflation were gasoline, cayenne pepper, and broiler
chicken meat.
The inflation rate in Bandung City in August 2025, when compared to 10
regencies/cities in West Java on a monthly basis (m-to-m), ranked third highest
after Majalengka Regency and Sukabumi City. Furthermore, on an annual basis
(y-o-y), it ranked fourth lowest after Bandung Regency, Subang Regency, and
Bekasi City. Meanwhile, on a calendar year basis (y-to-d), it ranks fourth
lowest after Subang Regency, Bandung Regency, and Tasikmalaya City.
The monthly deflation (m-to-m) in Bandung City is lower than the national
monthly deflation of 0.08 percent, but higher than the West Java Provincial
deflation of 0.19 percent. The annual inflation rate (y-o-y) in Bandung City is
still lower than the annual inflation rates in West Java Province and
nationally, which are 1.77 percent and 2.31 percent, respectively. Similarly,
on a calendar year basis (y-to-d), Bandung City experienced lower inflation
than West Java Province (1.36 percent) and nationally (1.60 percent).
Hotel occupancy rates in Bandung in
July 2025 increased
The hotel occupancy rate (TPK) in Bandung City in July 2025 was recorded at
55.59 percent, an increase of 3.16 points compared to the June 2025 TPK of
52.43 percent. This increase was contributed by the rise in the TPK of both
star and non-star hotels. The OR of star-rated hotels in July 2025 increased by
4.08 points from 56.57 percent to 60.65 percent. Meanwhile, the OR of non-star
hotels rose by 0.11 points from 36.93 percent in June 2025 to 37.04 percent in
July 2025.
Based on star classification, 4-star hotels had the highest TPK among star
classifications with a TPK of 65.87 percent, while 1-star hotels had the lowest
with a TPK of 44.99 percent. The highest TPK for non-star hotels was in the
25-40 room category at 41.29%, while the lowest TPK for non-star hotels was in
the less than 10 room category at 28.82%.
The occupancy rate in Bandung City was higher than that of West Java
Province and the national average, which stood at 38.80 percent and 40.13
percent, respectively. Based on classification, both star and non-star hotels
in Bandung City recorded higher occupancy rates than star and non-star hotels
in West Java Province and nationally. The TPK for star-rated hotels in West
Java Province is recorded at 49.52 percent, while the national average is 52.79
percent. Meanwhile, the TPK for non-star hotels in West Java Province is 22.68
percent and the national average is 26.60 percent.
The average length of stay for guests (foreign and Indonesian) at
accommodation services in Bandung City in July 2025 was recorded at 1.46
nights, which is 0.04 nights longer than in June 2025. Compared to the same
month in 2024, July this year recorded a 0.02 night longer stay. The average
length of stay for guests at star-rated hotels in July 2025 was 1.49 nights, which
was longer than the average length of stay for guests at non-star-rated hotels,
which was 1.27 nights.
The average length of stay for foreign guests in July 2025 was recorded at
2.22 nights, 0.17 nights longer than in June 2025. Meanwhile, the average
length of stay for Indonesian guests in July 2025 was recorded at 1.44 nights,
longer than in June 2025, which was recorded at 1.41 nights.
The increase in TPK in July 2025 compared to June 2025 was influenced by
school holidays and several events in the city of Bandung, including the Pocari
Sweat Run 2025 (July 19-20, 2025), which involved approximately 15,000
participants. In addition, there was also the Pusaka Nusantara National
Exhibition at the Sri Baduga Museum, Bandung Art Month (BAM) on July 26-27,
2025, and several other music events.
