Monday (18/03) BPS Bandung City held an apple in March 2024. In his speech, the Head of BPS Bandung City conveyed the mandate of the apple from the Deputy for Production Statistics. BPS as an agency that provides quality statistical data, has a vital role in supporting the implementation of the government's vision and mission, especially in realizing the Golden Indonesia 2045. The government has prepared the National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN) 2025-2045 with targets in the form of 5 main goals and 8 development agendas to realize Indonesia as a "Sovereign, Advanced and Sustainable Archipelago". Economic transformation is one of the important agendas to achieve the main targets of "per capita income equal to developed countries" and "poverty towards zero percent and reduced inequality".

Increasing the productivity of the agricultural sector and improving the welfare of farmers is one of the keys to economic transformation, considering that the agricultural sector is the sector with the largest number of workers and also the sector that is the main source of income for the majority of poor households in Indonesia. In addition, strengthening the processing industry as the main driver of economic growth that is globally competitive through downstream and technology-based industrial development is also a concern in the RPJPN. Therefore, quality agricultural and industrial statistics are needed to support the planning, implementation, evaluation, and control of national development towards the Golden Indonesia 2045.

In the provision of the four main pillars of agricultural statistics (i.e. agricultural production; socioeconomic situation of farmers; production costs; and the national agricultural balance sheet) as well as the provision of industrial statistics, BPS continuously updates and improves the quality of various existing statistical activities, such as 1) updating and improving the methodology in the collection of data on rice and corn harvest areas that objectively utilize geospatial statistics through ASF surveys, 2) developing the use of BIG DATA in the form of satellite image modeling in estimating rice harvest areas using machine learning, 3) implementing the use of CAPI & CAWI modes in Cropping surveys, the 2023 Agricultural Census, SEDAPP Online, etc.

As BPS people with integrity, of course we must guard the quality in every statistical business process and also optimize sectoral guidance with the hope that the provision of statistics can increasingly fulfill the dimensions of quality data, namely relevance, accuracy, actuality and timeliness, accessibility, comparability and consistency, so that it can become a strong foothold in national strategic policy making.

To support agricultural statistics, the availability of agricultural socioeconomic data is needed as a reference for the government and stakeholders in planning and formulating policies. Therefore, in 2024 an Agricultural Economic Survey (SEP) will be conducted, which is a series of ST2023. Through the SEP, it is expected that the socio-economic conditions of agriculture will be known, which will lead to the welfare of farmers.

In detail, the SEP aims to obtain information on the characteristics of agricultural businesses; information on income from agricultural activities; information on expenditures of agricultural business units; information on investment, finance, and insurance of agricultural business units; and information related to marketing and storage. As in the ST2023 activities, the SEP coverage includes subsectors of food crops, horticulture, plantations, fisheries, livestock, forestry, and agricultural service activities. In addition to producing data related to the socio-economy of farmers, the SEP is expected to provide an overview of Indonesia's agricultural SDGs. Agricultural SDG's indicators are important information to measure the achievement of sustainable agriculture, which can be compared between regions in Indonesia, as well as globally.

In routine survey activities, BPS also updates the company directory. In fact, this updating activity is not only important for routine survey activities but also useful for the preparation of the 2026 Economic Census activities. It is hoped that participation from all BPS work units can build a spirit of collaboration with agencies or parties external to BPS. Of course, we are committed to maintaining the quality of the data produced. As we know, BPS continues to strive for modernization in terms of business processes by utilizing advances in Technology, Information and Communication.
